My thoughtful neighbor gave me a great tip on viewing bald eagles:
Use the frontage road between the 2nd Ave. Post Office and the Des Moines River or use the Lutheran Hospital (original buildings) driveway to view bald eagles.
My daughter and I watched six eagles, young and old, perch, dive, fly, and sit on the ice from the warm comfort of our van. We took some photos through our stronger set of binoculars.

lutheran hospital is also where you want to park for an urban geocache, GCQ5MR Altar of the Nation. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=97364fdb-4d0e-43c5-a3e9-572b5315e584
Thanks for the info. Another great place to view eagles is at Gray's Lake. We counted more than 11 eagles on the ice on Wednesday during our Birding program. Come out this Wednesday at 11:00 (meet at the beach) to look for more.
